Reading
Homework in Mrs. Riley's class is Monday - Thursday. Homework assignments are a reflection of what we have learned in the classroom and allow students to practice those skills. Each Monday, students will bring home a book that is on their personal reading level. Students should:
#1 take a picture walk (discuss the pictures in the story)
#2 point to each word as they read the book to you OR with you
#3 find sight words they know in the book
#4 RETELL what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. PLEASE RETURN BOOK EACH FRIDAY
**** Practice sight words on the back of the folder or sight word flash cards each day!

Writing |
On Thursdays, students will be given a writing prompt or topic to draw a picture and write 1-2 sentences about. In kindergarten, students are encouraged to use invented spelling by writing the sounds they hear. So, don't worry if your child writes "prk" instead of park. Use the back of the folder as a resource for sight words. Help your child to label the pictures, use finger spaces between words and periods at the end of a sentence. Also, students should go back and read what they have written.
